May 18th: This Week at Rock Run House

This post should really be titled: The Last Few Weeks at Rock Run House. We have had a busy time of it lately. So busy that I haven’t taken the time to post at all, which means that this Monday’s post will have to serve as a recap of our Spring celebrations as well as a preview of all the good things to come during the rest of May.

The weekend of May 8th & 9th we celebrated this beautiful season here at Rock Run with our Spring Barn Dance on Friday night, followed by our Spring Tea & Garden Party on Saturday. We had a fantastic time kicking up our heels with dance caller Jenny Miller. Live music was provided by Daniel Dye with his original song “Clark County Two-Step” closing out the night. The Summer Barn Dance is tentatively scheduled for June 27th. Stay in touch to find out more!

The garden party on Saturday was held in what we call The Grotto: an outdoor room carved out of a cliff wall and stacked stone. The Grotto provided a wild setting for the more refined tea cups and small bites that our attendees enjoyed. The food on offer was all botanically-themed and inspired: early grey shortbread with a lemon glaze, chamomile & lavender honey cake, croissant dainties, and more. We had a lovely time looking through the many vintage garden books discussing gardening tips, memories, and whatever else the beauty of spring evokes.

Next up: We’re working on hosting an event I’m calling Breadfest, scheduled for June 20th. Details to follow, but in summary it is a celebration of breadmaking and grain-sourcing and carb-loading in the best and healthiest way there is by enjoying naturally-fermented bread. If you’ve attended one of our Bread Workshops, this event is especially for you.

In the meantime this month’s Sourdough Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 30th from 10am-12noon. There is still space available, so I hope you’ll join us!
